Mark Blizard is an Associate Professor and former Department Chair in the College of Architecture at the University of Texas at San Antonio where he has taught since 1998. Blizard holds his architectural registration in the state of Maryland and prior to coming to San Antonio, has practiced in Washington D.C., Blacksburg, Virginia and Charlotte, North Carolina. He received both his Bachelors of Architecture and Masters of Architecture at Virginia Tech (1986 and 1988), where he taught for six years from 1992 to 1998. In 2008, he published his first book of architectural theory and practice titled, Architecture: Land Culture Practice. He is also the author of the up-coming book, The Sketch: Meditations from an Italian Journey (2013), and has written many papers on subjects relating to landscape and memory, urban form, and practice as bricolage. Since 2009, Blizard has developed, directed and taught in the College of Architecture’s study abroad program in Castiglion Fiorentino and Urbino, Italy. Currently, he maintains a small practice in graphic design and continues to lecture, sketch, write, and develop curriculum.
