I'm a very mature student, I've had a rich textured life so far and of all the things I've done having and raising a family has been the most fulfilling. I know this sounds like a cliche but only because so many people agree. Family is the most important thing. So my children are reared and I have been made redundant in my late fifties, the job market has collapsed, its time to get a higher education right. Of course I'm right . Studying music for me was an obvious choice, I've played an instrument for most of my life and hope to be playing for the remainder of it, to get a deeper understanding of the processes involved in the production and performance thereof was an offer too good to refuse. So a Bachelor of Science in Music, Media and Performance Technology was what I decided on. Now the first thing you notice when you're out of work aside from the money of course is the lack of interaction with people, I really missed this vital yet often overlooked element of working life. College life has more than filled that void in my life, there's a lot of hard work and my appreciation for the lot of students has been altered. "If you want to know me walk a mile in my shoes" its not as easy as they make it look. I've been learning lots of new stuff along with some of the traditional subjects, maths was a challenge after so many years, but the Maths Learning Centre was really helpful, the same with programming in "java" where help was available in the Peer-Supported Learning Centre. Its good to know you're not in this alone, and feel that everybody here wants you to succeed and to be a part of something bigger.
