Oren Forgette

Born on June 7, 2001, in Buffalo, New York, Oren Forgette is a dedicated student whose academic pursuits at SUNY Geneseo have been characterized by a deep engagement with physics and mathematics. As he approaches the completion of his Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics with a minor in Mathematics in May 2024, his journey showcases a blend of intellectual rigor and community involvement. Oren's educational career began at City Honors High School, where he was deeply involved in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and earned his NY Regents Diploma in June 2019. As co-captain of the rowing team, he demonstrated his athletic prowess and ability to lead and motivate a team toward achieving common goals. At SUNY Geneseo, Oren has consistently maintained a 3.0 GPA, navigating the complexities of a challenging academic program. His involvement matches his commitment to his studies in research projects that extend his learning beyond the classroom. In the summer of 2023, he participated in the NASA NY Space Grant, working under the guidance of Dr. Pellerin at SUNY Geneseo. This project allowed him to explore advanced imaging techniques to analyze data from the Hubble Space Telescope, contributing to significant research on planetary nebulae. Oren's technical acumen was highlighted in a project where he utilized Labview software to create a control system for two-stepping motors. This innovative project involved synchronizing the movements of a toy car with a live-stream camera, showcasing his problem-solving skills and his ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practical scenarios. His leadership extends beyond academic pursuits. As an Eagle Scout, Oren spearheaded a deer enclosure project, demonstrating his commitment to environmental conservation. He has also taken on the role of Sports Chair in the Zeta Beta Xi Fraternity at SUNY Geneseo, where he organizes and promotes sporting events that enhance student life and promote physical fitness. In addition to his studies and leadership roles, Oren has gained practical experience through work at the Cheesy Chick Cafe & Food Trucks and as a delivery driver for DoorDash. These roles have honed his customer service skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently. Outside of his academic and professional life, Oren enjoys rowing, reinforcing valuable teamwork and endurance lessons. He is also exploring stand-up comedy, which allows him to express his creativity and engage with diverse audiences.
