Otheus has been doing system administration since the mid-1980's, starting with an IBM-PC running d-BASE III, and professionally since the early 1990's on OS-9 (no, not for the Mac). Though his early aspirations included "programming", he now prefers the challenges and dynamism of system-level design and optimization. His passions include increasing stability and availability, optimizing performance, identifying issues related to security, and writing useful shell scripts.
