Rick Charvet has taught visual arts to Gilroy students for more than 20 years. He earned a BS Applied Art & Design from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (’83), was a graphic designer, copywriter, and studied at The School of the Art Institute in Chicago. Charvet is a “Fellow” of The California Arts Project and illustrated the book “Get Over It! Education reform is dead, now what? He spends his summers at the Gilroy Art Center teaching young artists to discover their “artist within.” When he is not contemplating life, he spends time walking his dogs and teaching English to eighth-grade students. He believes, "The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why (Twain). In addition to art, Charvet created Project H.O.P.E. (Helping Our Pupils Excel) where at-risk youth learn from the "Who's Who" in Gilroy about passion and perseverance. Moreover, Charvet has helped hundreds of at-risk youth lead successful lives, attend community colleges/trade schools and develop positive relationships. He has taught in the public education system for nearly 30 years. Currently, he teaches middle school English and is the lead teacher/counselor for the Gilroy Adult Ed High School Diploma Program.
