Robin joined the University of the Highlands and Islands in August 2015 as its first Professor of Creative Industries, based at Shetland College. From 2005 to 2015 he was the founding Director of Screen Academy Scotland (a Creative Skillset Film Academy) at Edinburgh Napier University where he was Professor of Screen Media and Director of the Institute for Creative Industries. As a producer and director he had made a wide range of documentary and drama for the cinema and television, was head of development at Scottish Screen from 1999 to 2002 and a Board Member of Creative Scotland from 2010-2015.
