Sam Menzin

Sam Menzin is a sports executive, entrepreneur, and advisor whose career has been centered on baseball operations, recruiting strategy, and organizational leadership. As the founder and CEO of Campus Edge Baseball, he has combined his experience in player evaluation, analytics, and athlete development to help student-athletes navigate the college recruiting process. His professional background includes leadership roles in baseball operations, contract negotiations, player acquisition, and sports investment consulting, giving him a broad perspective on both the competitive and business sides of the industry. In 2025, Sam founded Campus Edge Baseball and established a recruiting and advisory platform that provides personalized support to student-athletes nationwide. Through the organization, he developed a recruiting infrastructure that includes athlete profiles, coach and school databases, school-match applications, and strategic recruiting resources. As CEO, Menzin manages all major aspects of the business, including sales, marketing, website operations, social media, client onboarding, analytics, financial tracking, video optimization, and NCAA compliance. He also works closely with baseball showcase organizations. He maintains relationships with coaches from Division I, Division II, Division III, and junior college programs to help athletes increase their visibility and recruiting opportunities. Alongside his work with Campus Edge Baseball, Sam serves as an analyst with Woods Capital and leads SJM Sports as founder and principal. Through these roles, he advises investors, ownership groups, and private equity firms evaluating sports-related opportunities. His consulting work focuses on sports assets, team acquisitions, and operational strategy, allowing clients to make informed decisions within a competitive industry. His interest in baseball dates back to his teenage years, when he read Moneyball, which introduced him to the game's strategic and analytical side. That experience helped shape his professional goals and deepened his appreciation for player evaluation and organizational decision-making. During his time at Swarthmore College, Menzin played four years of varsity baseball and earned the 2012 Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Award. He also spent two years as Assistant Director at the Complete Game Institute, where he managed the Pitching Biomechanics Facility, organized pitching camps, and worked with high-speed video technology. His early career included internships with the New York Mets, Turner-Gary Sports, and the Detroit Tigers. With the Mets, he assisted in Corporate Sales, supporting client relations, corporate activations, stadium tours, and game-day activities. At Turner-Gary Sports, Sam worked in Baseball Operations, gaining experience in salary arbitration preparation, market analysis, statistical evaluation, and free-agent strategy. He also contributed to the development of the agency's website. In 2012, he joined the Detroit Tigers as an intern in Baseball Operations, assisting with arbitration preparation, negotiation analysis, player recommendations, and trade-deadline evaluations. His career with the Detroit Tigers spanned 14 years and included advancement through multiple leadership positions. Beginning as an intern, Menzin progressed through analyst, coordinator, and director roles before being named Vice President and Assistant General Manager in 2021. In that position, he led teams across scouting, medical, performance, and player experience departments. He played an active role in player acquisition efforts, contract negotiations, salary arbitration matters, and capital investment initiatives exceeding $100 million. He also served as the club's interim point of contact during a transition in baseball operations leadership. Sam earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Psychology from Swarthmore College and studied abroad in Rome, Italy. He is currently completing an Executive Master of Business Administration at Baruch College's Zicklin School of Business and is expected to graduate in 2027. Raised in Westbury, New York, he attended Friends Academy High School before continuing his academic and athletic career. Outside of work, his interests include baseball leadership, scouting, statistical analysis, sports investments, construction and design projects, and contract negotiations. Sam Menzin also enjoys cooking, running, skiing, biking, yoga, and chess. In 2023, he completed the Detroit Marathon while raising $17,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. He has also volunteered with NOSH Food Kitchen in Glen Cove, New York, and Mission City in Detroit. Through his leadership, industry experience, and commitment to athlete development, he continues to contribute to baseball's growth and the advancement of aspiring student-athletes.
